God I love saying no. I may have accidentally cultivated a reputation as an elitist bitch in our scene but hey it saves me precious turn-down time if people don’t ask me to dance.

Ha ha! Yes! I feel that. This particular situation wasn’t ask-dance-related, but it’s the same feeling. BOUNDARIES ERECTED!

It’s cozy in here. :).

(Yay for being comfortable turning down dances without explanation. It’s an option we all have and few acknowledge.)

It is so liberating to say no without an explanation.

I realize how obliged we are to offer an explanation. Most of the time, I want to provide an explanation and I do because it will help me maintain relationships that are important to me. But other times I absolutely don’t want to be involved with a person or an activity and I also don’t want to have a discussion about it.

So often a no-explanation invites attempts at negotiation. (Esp from men? Esp in business scenarios? Why?) I might think that my explanation precludes negotiation. (“My arm’s off.” ”Well you could use your other arm.” etc.) ’No’ might also prompt more questions, but I haven’t opened the door.
